ROSE CITY LABORATORIES COMPLIANCE STATEMENT

• ROSE CITY LABORATORIES is an TNI/NELAP Environmental Accredited Lab.

One of the ways that TNI fosters the generation of data of known and documented quality is through the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program, or NELAP. The purpose of this program is to establish and implement a program for the accreditation of environmental laboratories.

NELAP relies on consensus standards representing the best professional practices in the industry to establish the requirements for this program, which is then implemented by state agencies recognized by TNI as Accreditation Bodies. The TNI Standard for laboratories, Volume 1, is modeled after ISO/IEC 17025:2005 "General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories." TNI Standard Volume 2 is the Accreditation Body (AB) requirements to accredit laboratories. The AB Standard is based on ISO/IEC 17011:2004 "Conformity Assessment General Requirements for Accreditation Bodies Accrediting Conformity Assessment Bodies." Volumes 3 and 4 relate to the proficiency testing components of NELAP.

The standard consists of general, structural, resource, process, and management system requirements. The general, structural, and management system requirements relate primarily to the operation and effectiveness of the laboratories quality management system and the laboratory organization itself. The resource and process requirements include factors that determine the correctness and reliability of the tests and calibrations our laboratories conduct.

• ROSE CITY LABORATORIES is an ORELAP Accredited Laboratory

The OREGON ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM is recognized by the NELAC Institute's National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. ORELAP accredits qualified laboratories for testing under the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation Act (RCRA), the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and other state and federal regulations.

ISO 17025 is a quality management system and the main standard for testing and calibration laboratories. ISO 17025 shares many commonalities with ISO 9000 but ISO 17025 evaluates the technical competence in lab testing and calibration services and it applies to organizations that produce testing and calibration results.

What does accreditation mean?

To achieve ISO 17025 accreditation, the laboratory's quality management system and technical competence is evaluated thoroughly by a third-party. Audits are conducted on a regular basis to maintain accreditation. ISO 17025 accreditation can only be granted by an authorized accreditation body. Accreditation means that the laboratory has met the Management Requirements and Technical Requirements of ISO17025 and is deemed technically competent to produce calibration and testing results.

Why is it important to calibrate your instruments in an ISO 17025 Accredited lab?

ISO 17025 Accreditation proves a laboratory has an acceptable quality management system in place, and it has the ability and competence to provide testing and calibration results. Accredited labs perform tests against the international standards (ISO 17025) and results are mutually acceptable between different governmental and regulatory organizations. The arrangement between accreditation bodies is that accredited members' test results will meet the same minimum quality standard regardless of the accreditation body and that the calibration results would be recognized as if they had performed the calibration themselves.
