Participate in testing for Unregulated Psychedelic Mushrooms in Recent Investigation

The Inquirer’s examination found:

  1. While many products carry lab reports suggesting they are legal, three products contained actual psilocybin or its relative, psilocin, both hallucinogens banned by federal law.

  2. Two products, including Ms. Mollie Cule, fabricated those lab tests. Two others cropped legitimate lab reports to conceal the presence of toxins such as salmonella, solvents, and heavy metals.

  3. Two samples contained only THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana or other cannabinoids.

  4. Eleven were synthetic compounds like ethacetin and metocin, engineered with slight molecular differences from outlawed substances like psilocybin, but whose health effects are far less known.

  5. Seventeen of the 20 products failed to clearly state any active ingredients on the packaging.

New documentary offers a compelling, grounded look at healing, science, and the evolving cultural conversation around psychedelics

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, March 30, 2026 - Journeys, a new feature documentary from Honor Arts, invites audiences into the deeply personal and often misunderstood world of psychedelic therapy. Through a series of intimate stories, the film follows individuals navigating trauma, mental health challenges, and personal transformation with the support of emerging psychedelic-assisted treatments.

At a time when mental health crises continue to rise and traditional treatments fall short for many, Journeys presents a nuanced, human-centered exploration of alternative paths to healing. The film weaves together firsthand accounts, expert perspectives, and observational storytelling to create a grounded and accessible entry point into a rapidly evolving field.

“Journeys is ultimately about people—real people searching for relief, meaning, and connection,” said director Christopher Cramer. “We wanted to strip away stigma and sensationalism and instead focus on the lived experiences that are shaping this conversation in a very real way.”

The documentary arrives amid growing scientific and cultural interest in psychedelic therapies, with research institutions and policymakers increasingly examining their potential to address conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety in end-of-life care. Journeys does not advocate or prescribe, but rather creates space for audiences to witness and reflect.

'Magic mushroom’ edibles packed with hidden substances but no psilocybin, OSU study finds

Central Oregon Daily News Staff

09/11/2025

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A study led by Oregon State University found that "magic mushroom" edibles sold in smoke shops and convenience stores contained no psilocybin, but instead undisclosed substances such as caffeine, hemp, kava and synthetic psychedelics (syndelics). The findings raise public health concerns due to the unknown safety and toxicity of these unregulated compounds.

The state has pioneered a therapeutic market for psychedelic mushrooms. Researchers are watching with a mix of excitement
and unease.

A New Era of
Psychedelics in Oregon

In a carpeted office suite, Alex Beck settled onto a mattress and, under the watch of a trained guide, began chomping through a handful of “Pumpkin Hillbilly” mushrooms.

A Marine Corps veteran who was sexually assaulted during his time in the armed forces, Mr. Beck had long been searching unsuccessfully for a way to put those nightmarish years behind him. Now he was ready for a different kind of journey, a psychedelic trip through the nether regions of his own mind…

In the Main Lab - Rose City Laboratories - Portland, OR

On April 21, Portland-based Rose City Laboratories, LLC (RCL) announced that it had been licensed by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to test psilocybin products for the state’s therapeutic centers. It’s the first lab to receive the required OHA license, but psilocybin treatment still can’t move forward.

In January, OHA opened its licensing applications for labs vying to test state-regulated psilocybin products, along with the manufacturers that will produce those products, the service centers where they’ll be consumed and the “trip facilitators” who will supervise the treatment sessions.

At publication time, OHA had not yet licensed any service centers. Meanwhile, only three manufacturers and four facilitators have so far received licenses. OHA is still expecting the first service centers to open their doors in 2023, but it’s not yet clear how widespread access will be at that time.

RCL will test psilocybin products for the two benchmarks of a regulated drug supply: potency and purity.

Oregon’s First Psilocybin License Holders Set to Take the Stage

Presentation Abstract:
"Believe it or not... testing for psilocybin IS rocket Science. Rose City labs is currently the only licensed laboratory to test Psilocybin in Oregon. Since no industry standards or guidelines existed, the challenge was a slow roll and literally monumental. The journey began nearly 2 years ago with measure 109. Hundreds of hours have been dedicated to developing these processes, which humbly began with button mushrooms and other fruiting body fungi foraged from the Northwest. Longtime counter-culture advocate and Lab owner Dan Huson, together with Senior Chemist Bjorn Fritzsche retell how our team of researchers, scientists and developers created reliable testing protocols, utilized industry testing standards, and the journey toward compliance with the State's regulatory requirements. Q & A session to follow."
