Dan Huson

Dan is a seasoned and respected industry thought leader. His career has been rooted in improving ownership, integrity, and accountability - in all of his endeavors. You won’t meet a more interesting and intuitive leader with a genuine trustworthiness his team greatly admires. Previously a Journeyman Machinist for Boeing (23 years) as well as a pioneer in opening one of the first medicinal cannabis dispensaries in Oregon. His entrepreneurial mind (which does not have an off switch) eventually pivoted towards laboratory testing, analytics, and accountability toward home health and wellness. This has ultimately led to the expansion into environmental test services. He has successfully owned and operated Rose City Labs in PDX since 2012 and now embraces opening a brand new lab in Bend in 2023.

Daniel’s huge capacity for helping others is second nature in many areas of his life. He is a firm believer in the ‘you get what you give’ attitude, so it’s no wonder his successes find him expanding to new locations, all with his ego contentedly managed. Dan loves his big boy toys, the beach & the outdoors at large. He is a long-time advocate for the potential health benefits of medicinal mushrooms - in fact, you can often find him foraging the dense mossy woods of the Pacific Northwest looking for rare & delightful fruiting fungi.

JOEL NOBLE

Joel’s work in the Rose City Laboratories Microbiology department primarily includes working with pathogen and gender identification using PCR and qPCR technology, and the testing of all our analytes for microbial contamination. As a director, he has greatly elevated our drinking water program - which truly is his baby. He joined RCL to help develop the environmental microbiology department and further expand the analytes able to be offered to our clients. Joel strives to be as meticulous as possible when handling our data and our samples saying, “Extra care is given to ensure each sample is treated appropriately.” In addition, he contributes oversight to our Psilocybin/Cubensis testing program, our environmental mold testing, and the new upcoming cannabis microbiology testing program. Plus… (wait for it) a boom in asbestos testing.

When asked what he loves about his job Joel answers: “Getting to make new tests work! It’s always satisfying to make a breakthrough on a testing issue and move forward to the next inevitable issue”. He adds, “Every test, every analyte, and every sample I handle is backed by the research I have invested into our testing best practices.”
He’s an avid player of all board game-related activities. Joel loves hiking in the gorge whenever he gets the chance. He can’t taste anything so he enjoys making strange food combinations just to upset the rest of the world. His other loves include one very tame sweetheart cat named Monster and one very-not-tame cat named Frank.

Orin has been with Rose City Laboratories for over 6 years. He’s our night shift lab monkey, loading up the instruments with samples to run overnight, so there is data to look at in the morning. He performs potency analysis for cannabis and cannabis products and runs qPCR to detect various pathogens that can infect cannabis. Previously, he worked for a company that manufactured custom DNA and RNA oligonucleotides. Before Orin’s pivot to science, he shipped books all over the world for powells.com, the online arm of Powell’s Books.

His experience in scientific research as well as his proficiency with computers, ultra-honed instruments, and equipment is well suited at RCL. Critical thinking is his mantra and his knowledge base shines with his strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

When asked what he likes about his job, Orin quips: “I love having late-night solo dance parties in the lab after everyone else goes home.”

Outside of the Lab, Orin favors playing tabletop games, painting miniature figurines for games, and doting on his 2 black cats: Archer and Babou. TYLER BRYNE

Tyler is the primary technician trained to perform most all RCL testing services. He has quickly moved into a leadership role and we rely on his experience to assist and mentor other technicians. Tyler runs various samples through analytical instruments and assists the chemists in developing test case methodologies. He makes sure the instruments are running properly and verifies that we have enough standards and chemicals to analyze our samples on time. He has a long history of working with quality assurance and always takes the time to ensure that his data is accurate. Tyler is a measure twice, cut once kind of worker when it comes to providing precise results. He isn't afraid to ask for the opinion of a fellow technician if anything seems off about the results of an analysis. A passion for science and curiosity about the ever-growing cannabis industry made RCL a perfect fit for pursuing his career development. Tyler observed that “Rose City Labs is an exciting and fast-paced environment that does not shy away from pushing the envelope to provide the best possible results. The personnel manage to do this without damaging the integrity of their data, of course.” When asked what he likes about his job Tyler says, “I enjoy that no two days in the lab look the same, the needs of our clients shape our operation on a regular basis. There are endless interesting experiments and entrepreneurial ventures to take part in.”

Tyler loves the natural world and will take any opportunity to hike and bike around the beautiful forests of Oregon. As an avid nature lover, he’s a natural caretaker of plants and animals of all kinds. He also is a committed rockhound and mushroom forager. His pets include frogs, fish, chickens, and isopods; anything low-maintenance is his cup of tea.
