January found us launching into a few new categories: We filed for licensing and accreditation through Oregon’s Program to legally test Psilocybin. We promoted our ‘first-to-retail-market’ Plant Virus and Gender testing DIY kits as well.

Rose City Laboratories welcomed a new logo for the New Year, bringing a clean and simple design that translates easily to all our branded items and materials. Variations for Cannabis and Psilocybin were also incorporated.

Every once in a while our media contacts will treat Rose City Labs to special events, in this case, Blazer Tickets! Which was fun… until an unexpected & unwanted visitor crept back in to spread at Rose City… boo.

The new regulations require all cannabis products to undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are free from contaminants and harmful substances. As a result, Rose City Labs has worked tirelessly to achieve full accreditation from ORELAP, a 3rd-party accrediting body recognized by the state of Oregon.

In efforts to help reduce our carbon footprint and to incorporate new branding, all of the DIY kits were streamlined and rewrapped to be consistent across the board. All RCL kits are sold online, allowing customers an option to send in their own samples. Efforts began for Amazon inquiries as well as retail hardware stores.

In February, Rose City Laboratories was the first Lab in the country to be granted FULL Accreditation from ORELAP for Psilocybin Product Testing. The requirements were met for the State of Oregon and the Oregon Health Authority (OPS), allowing RCL to move forward to the licensing portion of the OPS requirements.

Rose City is the first lab in the state to apply for a license and meet Oregon Health Authority requirements for testing the purity and potency of psilocybin mushrooms. “As a cancer survivor who grew up in grass valley, CA, witnessing the relief people with serious illnesses receive from what he calls “plant medicines”, Huson cares about how accessibe psilocybin will be in Oregon. Rose City Laboratories created an updated and more inclusive Equity Statement to comply with OPS and also bring current our policy to one that is consistent with today’s workplace culture. A few snippets…RCL will comply with our equity plan by offering the following: We meet our social equity plan in daily operations by having a quality manual the lab operates by an employee handbook given to all employees. All employees receive initial and annual training for the Code of Ethics. These are outlined and explained in our employee handbook, as well as during the interview process for new employees.

Rose City Laboratories recognizes when it’s time to step out into local community events. In this case the Shamrockin’ Good Times street fair in downtown Milwaukie! A Cannabis counterculture centric event was greeted by sunshine and fun for many employees who stopped by to support Zach’s SLABTOWN closing efforts,. and RCL who was title sponsor for the event. It was great to see so many Rose City customers turn out for the event. Highlights were great food trucks, live music, a dunk tank and of course a beer garden with NW crafted brews. Slabtown was co-owned a side passion by Zach Huson, a Rose City Laboratories Field Tech with ties!

There just are not too many full service labs (if any… wink wink) that have the testing bandwidth and requirements like Rose City Labs. With that said, great efforts have been initiated to comply and proceed with bidding on government and industrial jobs, not necessarily limited to Oregon. These opportunities have included PGE Parks and Recreational compounds, Indian Reservations as far away as Upstate New York, Round Robin and bench test studies and participation across the country. This ultimately results in moving us a little closer to competing for large scale contracts for the City of Portland, The State of Oregon & non-profits.

After a super long wait, not without a few bumps and bruises, Rose City Laboratories became the first licensed laboratory to legally test psilocybin in Oregon. Once this official announcement was made, RCL was legally ready to test products from licensed manufacturers.

And so it begins… Dan gets up-close with the onslaught of news and media surrounding the rollout of the Psilocybin Program in Oregon. Dan’s cannabis industry background gives him some sense of what a drug market may look like as it becomes a quasi-legal enterprise in Oregon.

We created a packaging seal with the intention of cross-marketing opportunities with new and existing cannabis customers. By offering a Certified Testing Seal RCL on edibles and consumables, RCL hopes to solidify consumers’ trust in various products sold in Oregon Cannabis dispensaries.

RCL has participated in many Health, Wellness and Home shows over the years, but this one was exceptional. Kim & Dan rocked the new booth with a visual emphasis on water quality testing. Some new relationships formed. We even debuted our new “Kids Lab”, which was a real hit for families!

The TIMELINE journey of RCL toward Licensure was the theme of the Booth and weekend. New Collateral and swag were displayed and visitors could navigate the span from testing to completion, a 2 year process which ultimately positioned us as the first legal Psilocybin testing lab in the USA.

Dan and Bjorn Co-Present as Laboratory testing category experts at PDX Psycon. Dan gave a history timeline to measure 109 and Bjorn as our senior chemist and go-to expert in research and development, the unique testing challenges as the country’s first Psilocybin testing lab.

We were contacted by the CNN production team for Anderson Coopers “The WHOLE STORY”, a segment on Psilocybin Mushrooms and journeying experiences. A crew from Paramount Pictures arrived to interview and film Dan, Bjorn and Joel, shooting scene setters for the upcoming episode.

Exciting Times at Rose City Labs as more global media outlets are covering Oregon’s first regulated Psilocybin program. Dan even spiffed up for the film and camera crews. Joint interviews with Tori from Satri Farms PDX as well as Zach showing off our intake process. World News!

As if there wasn’t enough going on! Dan decided to do some rearranging, which led to framing and constructing our new office admin space and lunch room. He even added outside venting, A/C and an actual sink! No more tripping the microwave & coffee pot, whew… way to go Boss!

Field Techs Zach, Derek, and Dan K. took some time off to set up and partake in the Cannabull alongside many of Rose City Laboratories customers, when asked, Zach says, “it was fun to watch the competition in real-time.”

Dan and Kim did it again with another booth set up, this time the first ever for Britebox Labs. Swag was handed out, a few interactive elements were introduced and a start to community connection in Bend was initiated.

The start of setting up water testing in the state of Washington became official with our certificate of accreditation. Many thanks to Natalie and her tenacity to see this through. Focus on water quality and other environmental testing.

Kelly Jones, Science teacher reached out to RCL to request a session on “Water Testing Analysis” for her advanced Class at Benson HS. Dan, Bjorn and Joel put together a presentation with a booklet and hands on exercises.

Who knew that we would be designing and promoting psychedelics mushroom R & D and our testing program for paid advertisements? And yet 6 months in, here we are. More exciting times as we roll out our capabilities.

During the nighttime parade, we teamed up with Pilot Plumbing for co-branding water testing in Vancouver. We also distributed promotional materials and decorated the the mobile Lab. Candy for all!

Kim and Joel championed the Kids Lab, set up in the RCL Lobby for preschoolers to come and bring in water samples, wear Lab Coats, look through microscopes and even given water trivia coloring sheets. Kim help facilitate and joel helped navigate the excited kiddos through the process. Fun Day!

Sure has fun together! Fun hot summer day out on Eagle Creek. Fantastic picnic lunch featuring Zach’s Own smoked meats. Thanks to Laura, Joya, and Kim for prepping the picnic! Games, Good food, Prizes, Summer Drinks, and creek walking made for a super fun day for RCL staffers.

Zach’s smoked meats 2 ways… Corn on the cob, Roosevelt Baked Beans, Sliders, BBQ everything. Adult lemonade, homemade Tequila = fun! Everyone brought a prize for BINGO. Then there was the Hot Potato game with oven mitts… serious competition! Creek walking & insect hunting too!

Co branded materials and advertising efforts found Rose City Laboratories expanding our collection efforts to include setting up a DIY Kit center and new marketing materials to include Vancouver & SW Washington.

With the theme: TESTING - DISCOVERY - SOLUTION, Rose City labs joined efforts with Pilot Plumbing and Honest Water Solutions, to give worried customers full-service options for water quality issues.

RCL Networking included connecting with fellow members and like-minded individuals in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. New relationships and honing existing ones within the cannabis community are featured.

With the new modified Water Testing Lab aka the Shuttle Bus adequately relocated and fully operational, Britebox labs expand into Water Quality testing and Environmental services in Bend, with support form RCL staffers.

It was all things fungi, Psilocybin, Psychedelics, and more at the Denver Psycon Conference. Full-size booth at the expo, was packed with curious minds, making it all work and maybe a little fun for Kim. Clearly here, size does matter!

After a slowish start to Oregon’s program, we were finally able to produce, print, share and collaborate the RCL Psilocybin testing program and even our extensive pricelist with our boastful brochure.

It’s no secret it’s been a stellar year for the breakout of post-measure 109 and Oregon’s Psilocybin program, and the media has somewhat been a revolving door… but the New York Times was a huge highlight in the frenzy.

Recognizing an opportunity to assist in the Psilocybin program on a national scale, Dan decided to branch out and officially launch DHG consulting and management services, partnering on speaker panels and other experts.

As part of the educational portion of the Psychedelic conference, Dan and Bjorn delivered an extensive presentation that focused on the development and protocols of setting up testing methods, as first in the country to ‘legally’ do so.

Following the conclusion of the REMOND conference, a few ewxperts hosted breakout sessions. Here Dan held court on regulations and roadblocks and his experiences in Oregon. All with a captive and engaged audience.

Partnering with the Psychedelics Standards Organization, Dan teams up with Rocco and a topic moderator, speaking candidly about the testing protocols and practices that he has helped create with accountability.

When Bend’s Juniper Labs was bought out earlier this year, Dan not only relocated and renamed the Lab, but inherited the lab’s staff. Nov held promise thru this atypical transition as new hires and roles revamped operations.

It’s no secret that analytical instruments and equipment are essential for RCL’s daily precision operations. Sophisticated new instruments included switching up elemental and surface analysis systems.

Black Friday Specials were launched as part of the new DIY kit expansion at Britebox Labs, teaming up with the existing program at Rose City Labs. Though a soft launch, we saw our first-ever DIY kit sales in Bend.

Fall was the rollout of a brand new 3 month media blitz in Deschutes county for Britebox Labs. Spots aired on local, national and streaming services, including 1 spot each week for Monday Night Football. We’re somebody now!!

WOW! PH - Water Hardness - Coliform /​ E.coli Bacteria - Nitrate - Lead in Water - Total Dissolved Solids - Arsenic - Legionella - Pesticides - among new individual tests now offered to help narrow & streamline consumer water issues.

One big addition to Rose CIty Lab was the addition of multiple “Community Giving Back” events. This included hosting a Food drive over the Holidays for the Portland Sunshine Division. Our full food barrel helped families in need.

Shirts, jackets & Beanies… OH MY! New branded apparel hits the lab, including an original sweatshirt design for all that displays many icons depicting the work from all departments and the Lab location coordinates. Thx Boss!
